Why: The initiative was organised to encourage participants to think more consciously about their relationship with consumption, waste, and the environment, and to explore sustainability as something connected to everyday choices and practices. It aimed to move conversations around sustainability beyond abstract ideas and make them more personal, approachable, and relevant to individual lives. |
| Official Statement From The Organizers | Trash Talk was a collaborative initiative by the Adhyayan Writing Community and Charkha for Earth, organised to engage participants in conversations around sustainability through writing, storytelling, discussion, and creative practice. The session began with an introduction to sustainability by Aditi Sharma, founder of Charkha for Earth. Participants were invited to bring pieces of trash or discarded objects from their homes and write about them. They then shared the stories behind the objects they had brought, allowing these personal objects and experiences to become the starting point for conversations around waste, consumption, and sustainability. The writing segment was followed by an open discussion, where participants reflected on their relationship with the objects they use, keep, and discard. The session also included a hands-on activity in which participants transformed old T-shirts into handmade tote bags without sewing, exploring reuse through a simple and practical creative process. The session concluded with handmade postcards created using dried leaves and flowers, which were shared with participants. Through Trash Talk, we sought to create a space where sustainability could be approached through the things closest to our everyday lives, our habits, our consumption, the objects we discard, and the stories attached to them. |
