| Primary Objectives Of The Event | WHAT: The Adhyayan meetup named ‘Fragility of Freedom’ held under the umbrella theme of ‘The Anatomy of Fascism’ was a participatory exercise of writing and discussing about the concept of freedom and the mechanisms that gradually erode it. It attempted to understand the notion of freedom both in terms of its dependency on power dynamics and as a phenomenon that emerges through social conditioning, collective psyche, authority, and individual agency. Its key aim was to discuss and deliberate on ways in which freedom is gradually given up by individuals in exchange for security, normalized in society, and repressed through censorship, as well as how it can be defended. The meetup also tried to make these abstract concepts tangible to the participants, engage them in deliberating the trajectories of gradual authoritarianism, and encourage critical thinking and freedom of expression and the participants shared their writing pieces as well to show their perspective of freedom. |
| Official Statement From The Organizers | Through 'Fragility of Freedom', Adhyayan attempted to carve a moment for the participants to step back and look at the freedom they so nonchalantly take for granted. Under the umbrella of the 'Anatomy of Fascism,' it attempted to understand how and why our freedom gets compromised bit by bit through conformity, fear, control, propaganda, and normalizing the abuse of power. It tried to move away from seeing fascism as a singular political event or ideology while getting back at the roots of the matter- normalizing abuse and how each of us can have a hand in it. |
